Melodies Philosophy

We acknowledge the bicultural uniqueness of Aotearoa New Zealand and weave the principles inherent in Te Tiriti o Waitangi of protection, participation and partnership into our daily teaching practice. Celebrating the culture, identity and language of all families in our community creates a rich learning environment for all.

We believe that children learn and grow best in a safe and welcoming environment that has strong relationships and connections with kāiako, tamariki and whanau. Building strong partnerships with parents, whanau and caregivers ensures their contributions are welcomed and valued.

Fundamental to the curriculum we design is weaving music, dramatic play, creativity and visual arts into a wide spectrum of activities.  Multiple opportunities are provided for communication and interaction both with individual tamariki and in small groups to explore oral language and communication strategies.   Within this learning space we seek to build strong foundational skills of early literacy and numeracy withmany of the learning experiences we provide also supporting the development of fine and gross motor skills.

Children need to feel safe, respected and have a strong sense of belonging in their ‘home away from home” if they are to develop emotional and social competence. As we support tamariki to learn how to learn a key aspect is focusing on developing resilience.

Our goal is that every child spends their day in an environment where self-esteem, learning and respect for others are prominent and in an environment which sparks imagination, curiosity, exploration, engagement, discovery and FUN.  Within this learning space we seek to build strong foundational skills of early literacy and numeracy.

Early childhood is one of the few times where the unknown can be explored, small things can delight and possibilities are endless. We offer children an environment where their natural curiosity is valued, stimulated and encouraged and believe every new experience is an opportunity to learn and grow.
